Im Rahmen des Exzellenzclusters Matters of Activity sind zum Mai 2019
zwölf Stellen für wissenschaftliche Mitarbeitende aus Geistes- und
Sozialwissenschaften, Naturwissenschaften und Technik (PostDocs) sowie
Mathematik, Informatik und allen Gestaltungsdisziplinen (Postdocs oder
Prädocs) zu vergeben. Die Befristung richtet sich nach der individuellen
Qualifikation der Bewerber (m/w/d) für ein Teilprojekt (bis 30.06.2021)
oder für zwei aufeinanderfolgende Teilprojekte (bis 31.12.2022).
Ziel des Clusters Matters of Activity ist es, Grundlagen zu schaffen für
eine neue Kultur des Materialen im Sinne der Neuerfindung des Analogen
im Zeitalter des Digitalen. Die Entwicklung von nachhaltigen,
energieeffizienten Artefakten und Technologien verlangt die untrennbare
Verknüpfung von aktiven Bildern, Räumen und Materialien durch ein
interdisziplinäres Vorgehen, bei dem die Geistes- und
Naturwissenschaften und die Gestaltungsdisziplinen als gleichwertige
Partner kooperieren. Experimentelle und gestalterische Ansätze werden
mit historischer Analyse verbunden, um daraus praktische und
theoretische Konsequenzen zu ziehen. Die beteiligten Principal
Investigators aus über 40 Disziplinen suchen für die ersten sechs
Forschungsprojekte herausragende Nachwuchsforschende, die zu den
Praktiken »Weaving«, »Cutting«, »Filtering«, den strukturellen
Verbindungen von »Material Form Function« und »Object Space Agency«
sowie den Codes von »Symbolic Material« kollaborativ forschen.
Anforderungen: abgeschlossenes wiss. Hochschulstudium sowie Promotion in
einem für das jeweilige Projekt relevanten Fach, interdisziplinäre
Forschungserfahrung und sehr gute Sprachkenntnisse in Englisch in Wort
und Schrift. Gestalter (m/w/d) ohne Promotion sind zur Bewerbung
eingeladen, wenn sie über mehrjährige praktische und/oder
Forschungserfahrung verfügen. In besonderen Fällen sind auch Bewerber
(m/w/d) mit Promotionsvorhaben (z. B. Mathematik, Informatik) möglich.

12 positions for outstanding researchers and designers – E 13 TV-L HU,
full-time fixed-term contracts
As part of the Cluster of Excellence Matters of Activity, twelve
positions for research assistants will be available as of May 2019 from
the humanities and social sciences, natural sciences and technology
(postdocs) as well as mathematics, computer science and all design
disciplines (postdocs or praedocs). The duration of the contracts
depends on the individual qualification of the applicants for one
project phase (until 30.06.2021) or two consecutive project phases
(until 31.12.2022).
The aim of the Cluster Matters of Activity is to provide the foundations
for a new culture of materiality in the sense of reinventing the analog
in the digital age. The development of sustainable, energy-saving
artefacts and techniques requires the inseparability of active images,
spaces and materials through an interdisciplinary approach in which the
humanities, natural sciences and design disciplines cooperate as equal
partners. Experimental and design-oriented approaches will be combined
with historical analysis in order to draw practical and theoretical
consequences. For the initial six research projects, the participating
Principal Investigators from over 40 disciplines are seeking outstanding
young researchers to collaboratively investigate the practices of
»Weaving«, »Cutting«, »Filtering«, the structural connections of
»Material Form Function« and »Object Space Agency« as well as the codes
of »Symbolic Material«.
Requirements:
completed academic education and PhD in a subject relevant to the
respective project,
interdisciplinary research experience
and excellent English skills, both written and spoken.
Designers without a doctorate are invited to apply if they have several
years of practical and/or research experience. In special cases,
candidates with doctoral projects (e.g. mathematics, computer science)
are also welcome to apply.

The exposé should present a research project geared towards the research
program of the Cluster and two projects. It also has to make plausible
which other disciplines should be involved in working on the project.

discussion at the selection symposium/assessment which will take place
in the period from 1th to 4th of March 2019. Unfortunately, the travel
expenses to the symposium cannot be covered.
